Work experience placement blog

I came to Look Touch & Feel to gain some experience in the work place during the summer. I am going in to my last year of school so I especially wanted to explore the career possibilities in my chosen field of computer science.

I started on the 17th of July and was given some online tutorials to follow in order to learn the basics of HTML and CSS. They gave me a great introduction to web programming and allowed me to complete a project in which I designed (in Adobe Illustrator) and produced an online portfolio for myself, that showed off my different skills and experiences. I went through several designs for this. Eventually, I ended up with my final product that included all of the aspects that I had learnt through the tutorials. I hope to continue to work on this in the future as it is a very unique way to present myself, which I would not have tried if I had not gone to LTF.

I also helped out with some of the live projects that were being worked on at Look, Touch & Feel. These ranged from directory work, which anyone at LTF can tell you is very boring, to producing and editing webpages using HTML and WordPress. I enjoyed doing this as it let me use technical skills in conjunction with design decisions. One of these projects was working on the Completely Electrical website which allowed me to make design decisions as well as to communicate with the client about their requirements. I was very happy with the results and I hope the client is too.

I also produced email campaigns for several businesses. Using the templates of previous newsletters I had to replace the stories, images and links to create a new newsletter. This allowed me to make continued use of my HTML skills as well as to some new software, Adobe Dreamweaver.

Overall, I really enjoyed my time at LTF as I learnt a lot about both the technology and creativity behind web design. I’ll definitely try and continue to continue working on the skills that I have learnt at LTF in the future. Thank you to everyone at LTF for such a great experience.
