My name is Rick O'Neill, I am a 35 year old designer from the UK, and father of two. Raife is 4, and Seren is 2.
13 years ago, I designed something called "The i-Holster" - an electronic safety device to ensure that Hand guns are kept out of small hands in the family home. The device uses something called an "i-button", a small Java chip that you will often see used in Bars and Restaurants to log into the cash register.
My proposal to you is that you help me to develop this device and to make such a device a part of the licensing arrangement for owning a Hand gun in the US. If all hand guns were secured in such a way, then literally hundred, or even thousands, of accidental deaths and injuries could be prevented. Small children, and their siblings, can be saved by such a device.
I am not reviving this design for commercial gain, I am reviving this design to try and make your country a safer place for children. I saw the grief in your face, and I shared it with you - every tear and every gut wrenching second of it.
You have the power to help me get this device design developed, prototypes created, and the appropriate authorities to make it a required item for hand gun owners.
I am attaching some of the original designs and some background information. I realise it's very unlikely that you will ever read this email, but to whomever you are that IS reading it - consider the potential implications of this device, and the children it could save, and PLEASE - place this letter in front of the President.
Very best,
Rick O'Neill, FRSA.
