Part 1 of
Start the pepper from seed at any time, since you're not limited by freezing weather. Fill a seed tray to about half its depth with Multipurpose compost. Level the surface and firm lightly.
Sow seed thinly on the surface of compost.
Cover the seed with thin layer of compost or vermiculite.
Place a waterproof label in the tray with the variety name and sowing date.
Water lightly and cover the tray with polythene, cling film or glass to maintain moisture.
Germination requires a temperature of 18 – 25C (64-77F) for 7- 10 days. An electric propagator is ideal or alternatively use the airing cupboard.
Ensure the compost does not dry out.6
